Ako Kaluna with 18 points as Northern Arizona beats Portland State 73-60

PORTLAND, Oregon — Ako Kaluna scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Northern Arizona beat Portland State 73-60 on Saturday night.

Kris Yanku added 13 points, seven boards and 11 assists for the Lumberjacks (6-9, 1-1 Big Sky). Jordyn Martin and Quinton Upshur had 12 points apiece. Aaseem Dixon chipped in 11 points and had four assists. The team sank 52.8 percent from the field overall, 66.7 percent from the line and outrebounded Portland State 38-27.

Northern Arizona led 34-27 at the break and went on a 10-3 run to start the second period to a 44-30 advantage with 16:25 to play. Portland State came within 10, 59-49, on a Gary Winston 3-pointer with 6:37 left before an 11-6 push put the Lumberjacks up 70-55 and they cruised to the win.

Gary Winston finished with 18 points for the Vikings (7-5, 1-1). Braxton Tucker added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
