2 teenagers struck by cars in Derry, NH; highway closed for 5 hours after accident

DERRY, New Hampshire — Police in Derry say two teenage girls are in the hospital after being struck by separate vehicles on Route 28, or Manchester Road.

The accidents happened at 9:10 p.m. Friday near Ocean State Job Lots. Both pedestrians, 13-year-old Lauren Gendreau of Derry and 15-year-old Sophia Christen of Manchester, were taken to Parkland Medical Center with serious injuries. Christen was later flown to University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester with serious head injuries.

The two vehicles were operated by 63-year-old George Draper of Bow and 58-year-old Anne Bartlett of Manchester. Police say Manchester Road was closed to traffic for about five hours while police investigated the accident.

The cause is under investigation by Derry police.
