Pregnant woman who later gave birth among 3 killed in crash near NM-Texas state line

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Three people, including a woman and her newborn, have died from injuries sustained in a car collision near the New Mexico-Texas border.

The Las Cruces Sun-News (http://bit.ly/KC9jiu) reports 21-year-old Karla Diaz died Wednesday at an El Paso hospital shortly after delivering a baby girl, who also died.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office says Diaz's 2-year-old son is listed in critical condition.

Authorities say they were passengers in a car driven by 22-year-old Andrew Valenzuela, of Anthony, N.M. Valenzuela rode through a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck.

Sheriff's deputies say Valenzuela died at the scene. The driver of the pickup was treated at a hospital and later released.

Authorities say nobody in the car was wearing seat belts and a child safety seat wasn't properly installed.
