First measurable snowfall of season expected in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE — A powerful winter storm approaching Wisconsin is expected to deliver the first measurable snow to the south.

The National Weather Service posted a winter storm warning for the southern third of the state Friday. Forecasters say three to ten inches of snow is expected across the region with the highest amounts near the Illinois border. The snow should begin in Madison after dark and move east into Milwaukee.

The snow is welcomed by hunters in Wisconsin as the gun season begins Saturday. WTMJ-TV reports the Fleet Farm store in Germantown is already busy Friday morning with hunters stocking up on propane heaters, hand and toe warmers and other supplies before heading to the woods and fields in search of deer.
