Man accused of driving drunk, hitting woman in Fort Collins denies vehicular homicide charge

FORT COLLINS, Colorado — A man accused of driving drunk and running over a woman in Fort Collins has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide.

The Coloradoan reports (http://noconow.co/YlYecy ) 41-year-old Monty Ray Dumler declined a plea bargain and is scheduled to go to trial Aug. 5 for the death of 80-year-old Marie Hayes.

Investigators say the woman was driving home late Sept. 12 when her car ran out of gas. After leaving her vehicle to seek help, she was struck by an SUV and then by two more cars.

Police say Dumler, of Greeley, was driving the SUV and was under the influence of alcohol at the time. He turned himself in to the Larimer County jail.
