MUNCIE, Indiana — A man killed during a standoff with Muncie police had set fire to the garage where he barricaded himself, then jumped from its second-story window before officers shot him, authorities said.
An autopsy was planned Tuesday on Shawn Michael Ruble, 35, of Muncie, said Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn.
Transcripts provided by police show Ruble told officers he didn't plan to come out because he didn't want to go back to jail after being in trouble previously.
"This is not going to end good," police said Ruble told them, according to The (Muncie) Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1g3WbWv ). "I have a .40-caliber (handgun) and 32 rounds. Either they're going to shoot me, or I'm going to shoot myself, or I'm going to shoot them."
Ruble pointed his handgun at police after exiting the garage, Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart said. Two officers shot Ruble and "immediately began rendering medical aid," Stewart said. Ruble later died at a hospital.
Parole agents came to the home Monday afternoon to investigate Ruble's possible role in a Blackford County vehicle theft. His criminal record includes convictions for resisting law enforcement and theft.
Muncie police and Indiana State Police are investigating. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
