BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — Vermont's Brattleboro Retreat private psychiatric hospital says federal surveyors who spent three days at the facility determined it is in compliance with requirements of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
But the Retreat, in Brattleboro, has not yet received an official written copy of the final determination from the federal officials.
The Retreat has been facing the loss of federal fund after CMS officials questioned the way the hospital handled violent or aggressive patient behavior and patient rights.
In September, the federal government accepted a plan by the Retreat that cleared the way for a surprise inspection.
After flooding from Tropical Storm Irene forced the closing of the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury, some of the state's most severely mentally ill patients were transferred to the Retreat.
