Man acknowledges slashing fellow resident's throat, killing him, at Butte assisted living home


BUTTE, Montana — A 73-year-old man accused of slashing a fellow resident's throat with a large butcher at an assisted living home in Butte has pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide.

The Montana Standard reports ( ) John Edward Grubbs, Sr., entered his plea Thursday in the March 19, 2014, death of 72-year-old Jerry Diltz. Grubbs' sentencing has not yet been scheduled.

Prosecutors say the two men were drinking together when they began to argue about money. An employee witnessed the fight, which happened in a common area, and called police.

Diltz died at the scene.
