BALTIMORE — Maryland casinos in August brought in their highest one-month total since gambling was legalized in the state.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency says the state's five casinos, including Baltimore's week-old Horseshoe Casino, earned a total of $80.6 million in August.

Maryland Live Casino in Hannover was the highest earner, raking in $57 million in August. And Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, which opened on Aug. 26, earned roughly $5.7 million in the six days last month it was open for business.

The agency says compared to August of 2013, revenue for Maryland's casinos is up 5.4 percent.
