Juror in western NY doctor's fatal hit-run trial removed after DWI arrest hours before trial

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A judge has removed a member of an upstate New York jury hearing a fatal hit-and-run case that prosecutors say involved alcohol after the juror was charged with drunken driving.

Buffalo media outlets report the juror was arrested early Thursday. Later that morning, the manslaughter trial of Dr. James Corasanti was delayed when the juror called and said he was having car trouble.

He was replaced with an alternate.

Police in Tonawanda say 40-year-old Michael Barron of Kenmore struck a light pole and left the scene before being arrested a few blocks away.

He was part of the jury deciding the manslaughter case of Corasanti in the death of 18-year-old skateboarder Alexandria Rice.

Barron didn't immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment Friday.
