Machete-wielding man arrested in Ventura County after trying to break in to occupied house


SIMI VALLEY, California — Police say they captured a man with a machete who was breaking in to a Ventura County house where a family slept.

The Simi Valley Police Department says that suspect Amado Hernandez had smashed windows of the home and was trying to get inside.

The Ventura County Star reports ( ) that Hernandez allegedly had already assaulted one man who lived elsewhere on the large property by the time officers arrived early Sunday. The victim had a large bruise on his head.

After a search with helicopters and police dogs, officers found Hernandez in a garage and arrested him.

He was booked into Ventura County jail and faces a court hearing Tuesday.
