MERIDIAN, Mississippi — The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center has formally kicked off its $44 million fundraising campaign.
At a private event in Meridian on Thursday, board members announced they have raised $12.3 million thus far.
The board's goal is $44 million.
The 58,500-square-foot center is scheduled to open in 2017 — the same year Mississippi will celebrate its bicentennial.
The project has been in the works for more than 10 years. Meridian was chosen several years ago to be the home of the museum.
