WASHINGTON — Police say officers have shot and killed a robbery suspect who fired at them in southeast Washington.

Commander David Taylor of the Metropolitan Police Department's 6th District says officers pursued the man Wednesday afternoon because he matched the description of a suspect in a robbery that had just occurred. He says officers cornered the man, at which point the man pulled a gun and opened fire. He says three officers fired multiple rounds, and the man was killed.

Taylor says the number of shots fired and other circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation. The shooting occurred near Naylor Road and 30th Street, Southeast. The man's name will be released once his relatives are notified.
