NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A fatal traffic crash on Nashville's downtown interstate highway loop has closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 40.

A sport utility vehicle and a car collided around 3 a.m. and the eastbound lanes were expected to remain closed well into the morning commute.

WSMV-TV (http://bit.ly/123KIJZ ) reported a caller to the station said a vehicle going the wrong way caused the crash, but said police could not immediately confirm it.

The driver of the car was dead at the scene and a passenger was injured. Two people in the sport utility vehicle were critically hurt.
