Wildlife management area camping restrictions remaining in place in western North Dakota

BISMARCK, North Dakota — Camping restrictions established last year on some wildlife management areas in western North Dakota and along Lake Sakakawea will remain in place this year.

The restrictions are a response to the oil boom in the region and are aimed at ensuring the areas are available for hunters and anglers. Rules are posted at entry points.

The state Game and Fish Department says overnight camping is prohibited on the following wildlife management areas: Antelope Creek, Lewis and Clark, Big Oxbow, Ochs Point, Neu's Point, Overlook, Sullivan and Tobacco Garden in McKenzie County; Van Hook in Mountrail County; and Hofflund and Trenton in Williams County.

Several other wildlife management areas are closed to camping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but open to camping Thursday through Monday. A list can be found at http://www.gf.nd.gov .
