GAINESVILLE, Georgia — A 19-year-old Gainesville man has been charged with DUI and vehicular homicide after his 2-year-old nephew was struck and killed.

The Gainesville Times (http://bit.ly/1PQP5l4) reports Joshua Saunders is charged with striking Landen Morton on Sunday. Police say Saunders tried to back up in a 1978 Chevrolet K10 and the toddler ran behind the car. Sheriff's deputies escorted Saunders back to the scene after authorities say he drove about half a mile away.

Saunders also is charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Toxicology tests on Saunders' blood-alcohol level are pending.

Saunders appeared in Hall County Magistrate Court on Monday, where a judge denied him bond. His preliminary hearing is set for May 11.
