State police arrest St. Rose woman in death of bicyclist in St. John the Baptist Parish

LAPLACE, Louisiana — State police have arrested a St. Rose woman in the death of a bicyclist.

Trooper Melissa Matey says the accident happened late Thursday night on Louisiana Highway 636-6 in St John the Baptist Parish.

Matey says 55-year-old Wellman Joseph of LaPlace died when he was struck by a hit and run driver.

She says a call by a family member to state police resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old Darla Gauthreaux (GOH'-troh).

She was booked on charges of vehicular homicide, DWI and felony hit and run.

Online jail records did not list an attorney for Gauthreaux.
