BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — The Brattleboro Retreat is undergoing an inspection following problems found at the psychiatric hospital.

Vermont Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/YP0n42) that the Vermont Division of Licensing and Protection is conducting the inspection this week on behalf of the federal Centers for Medicaid and Medicare.

The Retreat stands to lose its federal funding if the problems aren't corrected.

The problems started with a suicide attempt in May. Officials visited and found problems with patient safety issues, jeopardizing the retreat's standing with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Other findings had to do with a key breaking off in the lock to a patient room and a broken light fixture in an elevator.

Inspectors also found in August inappropriate sexual behavior between two patients in the adolescent unit.
