First-time claims for unemployment insurance decrease in La. for the week ending July 5

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending July 5 decreased from the previous week's total.

The state labor department figures released Friday show initial claims decreased to 2,301 from the previous week's total of 2,577. For the comparable week a year earlier, claims were lower at 2,084.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 2,543 from the previous week's total of 2,791.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending July 5 increased to 22,473, compared to 20,876 the week earlier

The four-week moving average for continuing claims increased to 21,691 from the previous week's average of 21,259.
