Prosecutors: 2 men face murder, weapons charges in fatal Irvington street shootings

IRVINGTON, New Jersey — Two men have been charged with murder in the shooting deaths of two people men killed last year in northern New Jersey street shooting.

Essex County prosecutors say 28-year-old Altariq Thomas and 24-year-old Aljumar Derrick also face multiple weapons charges stemming from the Nov. 22 slayings of Shaqkille Kirkland and Dashawn James, who were both 20. The shootings occurred of Chancellor Avenue in Irvington, where all four men lived.

Bail was set at $1 million for each suspect, who were both arrested on Friday. It wasn't known Monday if either man has retained a lawyer.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
