Spokeswoman: 2 inmates die of natural causes at Ouachita River Unit Hospital

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — An Arkansas Department of Correction spokeswoman says two inmates died at a prison hospital of natural causes.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ( ) reports 65-year-old Donald Finchem died Wednesday at the Ouachita (WAH'-shih-taw) River Unit Hospital. He had been serving a 14-year sentence for second-degree sexual assault.

Eighty-nine-year-old Harvey Childs also died Wednesday at the hospital. He was serving a sentence of life without parole for capital murder out of Jefferson County.

Department spokeswoman Cathy Frye said the Arkansas State Police won't investigate the deaths because the inmates died of natural causes. Frye said Monday the announcement of the deaths was delayed because of the time it took to notify the inmates' families.
