Police say about 12 people suffered minor injuries when a Knox County school bus crashed into a car and ran off a road on Wednesday afternoon

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Police say approximately 12 people suffered minor injuries when a Knox County school bus crashed into a car and ran off a road.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1Piiy5A ) is reporting that about 75 students from Cedar Bluff Elementary School were on board the bus at the time of the crash Wednesday afternoon.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office said 11 children on the school bus suffered minor injuries, as well as the driver of the car. Officials at the scene said 10 students were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

The crash took place about 3:30 p.m. local time. Officials say the bus struck the car when it turned left and then ran down an embankment. The cause is still under investigation.
