NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A Texas man has pleaded guilty to leaving a threatening voicemail at a Murfreesboro mosque.
Javier Alan Correa was sentenced Monday to five years' probation, including eight months of home detention, on a charge of obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs.
The 25-year-old from Corpus Christi in the plea agreement admitted threatening to blow up the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
According to a release from the U.S. attorney's office in Nashville, Correa told U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger that he had been alone at home drinking beer on Sept. 5, 2011, when he made the call in response to a TV news account about Muslims in America.
