LINCOLN, Nebraska — Kale Kleinschmidt rushed 29 times for 218 yards and three touchdowns, Riley Tegtmeier threw for 149 yards and two scores, and No. 2 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley defeated No. 8 Burwell 44-30 in the Class D1 championship game on Monday at Memorial Stadium.
BDS (13-0) led 28-0 in the third quarter before Burwell (11-2) pulled to 36-30 in the fourth quarter. Tegtmeier then led BDS on a nine-play, 65-yard drive to put away the game, with Kleinschmidt carrying seven straight times for the final 36 yards.
Tegtmeier ran 19 times for 64 yards and a touchdown and completed 11 of 20 passes, with one interception. Sam Christensen caught four passes for 56 yards and a score.
Burwell managed only 78 yards on 38 rushes, but Victory Sikes completed 19 of 36 passes for 275 yards and three TDs, with two interceptions. Ty Chaffin caught 10 balls for 158 yards and a TD.
