LOS ANGELES — Luke Nelson scored 16 points, Travis Souza scored a career-high 15 — all 3-pointers — and UC Irvine routed Cal State Northridge 80-49 on Thursday, holding the Matadors under 50 points for the first time this season.

The Matadors (6-14, 2-3 Big West) made 16 of 54 field goals (29.6 percent) and hit 1 of 10 3-pointers in their lowest offensive output since their 62-49 loss to Fresno State on Feb. 18, 2012.

Will Davis II added 11 points for the Anteaters (10-8, 2-1), who never trailed and have won their third straight.

UC Irvine led 39-18 at halftime, opened the second half with a 9-2 run for a 46-20 lead and continued to pull away. The Anteaters outrebounded the Matadors 44-29 and shot 50 percent from the field.

Aaron Parks came off the bench to lead the Matadors with 18 and Stephan Hicks had 14.
