Federal inmate found dead in Lafayette County jail in apparent suicide

OXFORD, Mississippi — A man being held in the Lafayette County Detention Center on federal charges has been found dead in his cell.

Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy says the circumstances surrounding Bobby Allen Osborne's death on Tuesday were "consistent with self-inflicted hanging." An autopsy is being performed.

Osborne was in custody on charges he transported a minor from Mississippi to South Carolina for the purpose of engaging in illegal sexual activity.

The U.S. Marshals Service says Osborne also had charges pending in South Carolina.

Osborne was being held on federal charges involving illegal sexual activity with a minor.
