Coleman family appeals dismissal of lawsuit against Joyce Meyers Ministries

MOUNT VERNON, Illinois — Family members of a slain southern Illinois woman want a lawsuit restored blaming a televangelist for her death and the death of her children.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports Tuesday (http://bit.ly/13XafJT) that Sheri Coleman's family asked the Illinois Appellate Court to reinstate the lawsuit against Missouri-based Joyce Meyer Ministries. A Monroe County judge threw out the lawsuit twice. The family's attorney says the Monroe County judge was wrong.

Christopher Coleman had worked for the ministry. He was convicted and is serving a life sentence in the 2009 deaths of his wife and two sons.

The lawsuit claims the ministry did nothing to investigate threats against Christopher Coleman's family and didn't warn Sheri Coleman.

The lawyer for Joyce Meyers Ministries has said the employer isn't responsible for ensuring an employee's conduct.
