Cops: Missing woman's SUV found in Everglades canal; body sent to Miami-Dade medical examiner

KENDALL, Florida — Detectives believe they've found the body of a woman whose husband has been charged with her murder.

On Monday night, Miami-Dade police found Raquel Calderin's SUV submerged in a canal in the Everglades. A body found inside the vehicle has been taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Calderin has been missing since September 2012 when she disappeared from the elementary school where she worked in Kendall, south of Miami.

The Miami-Herald ( reports Calderin wanted a divorce from her husband, 56-year-old Jesus Maqueira. Authorities say she had called him a jealous and violent stalker. Even without a body, police charged him with her murder in 2013.

Prosecutors say cell phone records place him with Calderin when she disappeared.
