$5.8 million Breeders Crown draws 156 trotters, pacers for championships at Meadowlands

CRANBURY, New Jersey — The $5.8 million Breeders Crown drew 156 trotters and pacers for the season-ending championships at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Entries closed Tuesday for the 12 finals scheduled for Nov. 21 and 22. The Breeders Crown is harness racing's equivalent of the Breeders' Cup, and the outcomes help determine divisional champions and the Horse of the Year.

Notable entrants include defending Horse of the Year Bee A Magician in the $250,000 Mare Trot; European star Commander Crowe in the $500,000 Trot; and Nuncio, winner of the Yonkers Trot and the Kentucky Futurity, in the $500,000 3-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Trot.

The Breeders Crown returns to the Meadowlands after a four-year absence. It was held at Pocono Downs last season.

The maximum starters in a race are 11. With overflow entries, seven of the Crowns will require elimination races Friday and Saturday. The other five Crowns advance directly to the finals.
