Motorist dies after car strikes trees, goes up in flames in Pomona

LOS ANGELES — Officials say firefighters found the body of a motorist after putting out flames engulfing a vehicle.

Pomona police Sgt. Christian Hsu told City News Service that police were dispatched to the area shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday and found the vehicle had struck several trees before being consumed by fire.

Hsu says officers called for firefighters after being unable to put out the blaze.

Firefighters found a lone occupant inside the vehicle had died.

The identity and gender of the driver was not immediately known.
