NY man, 18, dies in Steuben County hit-and-run accident; alleged driver charged with DWI

COHOCTON, New York — State police say an 18-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on Route 36 in Steuben County.

Troopers say James Mitchell of Wayland, 40 miles south of Rochester, was found dead beside the road in the town of Cohocton at 7:20 a.m. Friday. Police say evidence at the scene indicated it was a hit-and-run accident.

An investigation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Kyle Oneal of Wayland, who was charged with driving while intoxicated.

State police and Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker are continuing the investigation.
