SALT LAKE CITY — A jury has found a Taylorsville man guilty of child abuse homicide in the death of his 22-month-old son in a motorcycle crash.
Forty-nine-year-old Shannon Moore was convicted Wednesday of the felony charge, along with misdemeanor counts of unlawful motorcycle riding and having a minor not wear protective headgear while on a motorcycle.
Moore was accused of riding outside his apartment with his son on his lap in August 2012, despite being warned several times before that it was dangerous.
As he was driving through the parking lot, police say, he tried to turn a corner while going about 41 to 47 mph, but lost control and crashed.
The boy died at the scene.
The father and son were not wearing helmets.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 10.
