Bicyclist struck, killed in DC's busy U Street corridor; police investigating

WASHINGTON — D.C. police say a 50-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a car in the busy U Street, Northwest corridor.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. Thursday. Police say a male driver was heading east on U Street when his car struck a bicyclist at the intersection with 11th Street.

The bicyclist, 50-year-old Andre Brands, was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The driver of the car was not hurt. Police are investigating the incident.
