BOOTHBAY, Maine — Police are investigating a single-car crash in Boothbay in which a 73-year-old man died.

Lincoln County police say they responded to the accident just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. A preliminary investigation shows the Boothbay man was traveling south when his vehicle drove into a ditch and hit a utility pole. He was wearing a seatbelt and was alone in the car.

Police are working with the state Medical Examiner's Office to determine if the crash involved some kind of medical emergency. The road where the crash occurred was closed for about 90 minutes while police investigated.

Police say they will not release the name of the driver until his family is notified.
