ATHENS, Ohio — A former Detroit police officer accused of leading a drug ring in southeastern Ohio has pleaded not guilty to trafficking charges.

Investigators say Brandon Allen orchestrated a $3 million drug ring selling illegal prescription painkillers in Athens.

Allen entered his not guilty plea Monday during an appearance in Athens County Common Pleas Court where bond was set at $12 million.

A grand jury indicted Allen on multiple drug trafficking charges last month. A message was left Monday with his attorney.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn says the investigation into Allen followed the arrest of eight people in May for their alleged involvement in a drug pipeline running from Athens through Columbus to Detroit.
