Las Vegas sees 3.7 percent jump in visitors in March; gambling dives compared with last year

LAS VEGASLas Vegas saw more visitors in March compared with the same month last year, although gambling was down significantly throughout Clark County.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Thursday that about 3.5 million visitors came to Las Vegas in March, a 3.7 percent increase from the same month last year, when 3.4 million people visited Sin City.

There were more guest rooms available this March, and citywide occupancy rates ticked up slightly to 88.3 percent.

Clark County gambling revenues of $733 million were down more than 12 percent year-over-year. On the Las Vegas Strip, numbers were down almost 15 percent from last March, when officials say table games brought in especially high amounts of revenue.

Average hotel rates were down 3.5 percent to $107 a night.
