Teen struck, killed by vehicle in Chautauqua County; no charges against driver

PORTLAND, New York — The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says an 18-year-old has died after being struck by a vehicle along Route 20 in Portland, about 45 miles southwest of Buffalo.

Deputies identify the victim as Leonard Ecker of Portland. He was pronounced dead at Westfield Memorial Hospital.

Deputies say it's unclear why Ecker was in the road when he was hit shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The vehicle was driven by 70-year-old Theodore Marsala of Westfield. No charges have been filed.
