LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana — State police say a single-vehicle crash in Calcasieu Parish has claimed the life of a passenger and resulted in the arrest of the driver for vehicular homicide.

The accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Louisiana Highway 3256 east of Lake Charles.

Sgt. James Anderson says a van driven by 34-year-old Randall Keith Laird II, of Lake Charles, failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the road and struck a tree.

He says the lone passenger in the vehicle, 44-year-old Molly Frank of Iowa, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anderson says Laird was booked with DWI and vehicular homicide.

Laird remains in the Calcasieu Parish Jail.

Jail officials couldn't provide the name of a defense attorney to comment on the charges.
