LONG BEACH, California — Jaron Martin's driving layup with 1.4 seconds left lifted UC Irvine over Long Beach State 56-55 on Saturday.

UC Irvine (14-9, 7-2 Big West) led most of the game, but found itself down 55-54 with 10 seconds left after Long Beach's McKay LaSalle drilled a 3-pointer after a steal by Travis Hammonds.

Long Beach State called time after the make, which allowed Martin to sub back in for UC Irvine and hit the game-winner.

UC Irvine led 34-27 at the break after Martin's jumper as time expired. The Anteaters maintained their advantage until midway through the second half, when a layup by Long Beach's Tyler Lamb tied it at 40. UCI retook the lead moments later on Travis Souza's layup and led until LaSalle's trey.

Will Davis II paced UC Irvine with 22 points. Martin finished with nine.

Long Beach State (13-12, 7-2) was led by David Samuels with 15 points and Lamb ended with 14.
