OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has rejected the appeal of a man convicted and sentenced to death for killing an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper.

The ruling dated Friday rejects claims by Ricky Ray Malone that he had ineffective counsel and turns down his request for a hearing in the case.

Malone was convicted in Comanche County of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the December 2003 shooting death of Trooper Nikky "Nik" Green.

Authorities say Green was shot to death with his own gun while trying to arrest Malone for allegedly operating a mobile methamphetamine lab out of a car on the side of a road. Some of the attack was captured on Green's vehicle's dash-camera.
