SANTA FE, New Mexico — The interim Santa Fe police chief has been named the permanent chief after a nationwide search and interview process.
City officials announced Friday that Patrick Gallagher got the job over two other finalists.
He has served as the interim chief since the end of July after former chief Eric Garcia abruptly resigned after about one year in office.
Before being named interim chief, Gallagher served as the city's training specialist.
Gallagher has 27 years in law enforcement and served in several police departments including those in New York City, Santa Fe and Truth or Consequences.
