OBERLIN, Louisiana — Allen Parish school employees will receive an extra paycheck in December.
The American Press reports (http://bit.ly/cseYHv ) the school board voted Monday to use more than $1.4 million in local sales tax revenues and gaming compact funds from the Coushatta Tribe to fund salary supplements for its 678 employees.
As approved, degreed personnel - including classroom teachers and administrators - will receive a $2,000 one-time supplement.
All other employees, including support personnel, will receive $1,140.
School board members and substitutes will not get the supplement.
"It's really nice and a good time of year to be receiving this," Board President Carolyn Manuel said.
The supplements will be paid in the form of a 13th check to be distributed by Dec. 20, according to finance director Wilfred Bourne.
The school district traditionally provides the annual supplement at the end-of-the-year.
This year's distributions include $1,081,268 from the Coushatta Tribe Compact and $388,869 from surplus sales taxes.
"The sales tax came up which really helped us," School Board Finance Committee Chairman Gregory Monceaux said.
