STONY POINT, New York — The future of a Rockland County youth retreat center is unclear following a dormitory roof collapse.
No one was in the dorm at the Marian Shrine complex in Stony Point on Friday when the entire roof of the 2,400-square-foot wing collapsed.
More than a foot of snow that fell Thursday resulted in a number of roof collapses in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.
The center's director, the Rev. James McKenna, tells the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1nK4wf0 ) that Haverstraw (HAV'-ur-straw) town building inspectors also closed the gym, chapel and girls' dormitory as a precaution.
On Monday, heavy machinery was demolishing what was left of the boys' dorm.
On weekday winter nights, the dorms were used to shelter homeless people.
