Official: TransCanada will offer both pipeline alternatives when it gauges support this year

JUNEAU, Alaska — When TransCanada Corp. goes to the marketplace this year to gauge interest in a pipeline project, it won't just be for a line that runs to tidewater.

While TransCanada got permission from the state Wednesday to shift its attention to a project that could serve overseas markets, the company has for years been focused mainly on a line that would run into Canada and serve North America markets.

Palmer says solicitation could occur through ads in newspapers, TransCanada's website and by the company reaching out to parties that have indicated past interest.

TransCanada's Tony Palmer says the market solicitation will include both options.

Palmer says he's not sure how long the solicitation will last or when it will start. The state expects it to be completed by year's end.
