MARLETTE TOWNSHIP, Michigan — Michigan State Police say three people have died following a two-vehicle crash in Sanilac County involving a car carrying two elderly couples.

Police say the car failed to heed a stop sign and collided with a Jeep on Tuesday afternoon in Marlette Township, about 65 miles north of Detroit.

Police say 84-year-old Louis Kunkel, his 81-year-old wife Helen Kunkel and 70-year-old Vicky Doten died in the crash. All were passengers in the car driven by Vicky Doten's husband, 73-year-old Kenneth Doten. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

All four were from the village of Ovid. Police say they didn't immediately know where the car was heading at the time.

A 59-year-old Reed City woman driving the Jeep was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
