PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio — A fired Ohio island police chief is asking a court for a hearing in the appeal over his firing.

The attorney for former Put-in-Bay chief Ric Lampela says the village council didn't file a "conclusions of fact" supporting their decision to remove Lampela.

The Port Clinton News-Herald (http://ohne.ws/1o6NeAt ) also reports Lampela says the council denied him the right to testify on his own behalf.

The village council in the Lake Erie island resort town fired the police chief after he was accused of blocking an investigation into sexual assault claims against an officer.

A judge later cleared Lampela of blocking the investigation. But he was convicted on a disorderly conduct charge over a confrontation with two officers five years ago.

Lampela is appealing that conviction.
