I-81's northbound lanes north of Syracuse reopen after crash involving several vehicles

CENTRAL SQUARE, New York — A section of the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 north of Syracuse have reopened after being closed for more than three hours by an accident involving several vehicles.

Authorities say the crash occurred around 5 a.m. Tuesday near the Oswego County village of Central Square. The accident reportedly involved at least three-tractor trailer and several other vehicles.

I-81's northbound lanes between Exit 32 in Central Square and Exit 33 in the town of Parish reopened around 8:30 a.m.

No other details have been released.

It isn't immediately known if the weather played a role in the crash. Lake-effect storms and whiteout conditions have caused accidents that have closed I-81 north of Syracuse on several occasions this winter.
