MONTGOMERY, Alabama — A finalist in the search for the next president of Alabama State University has decided to withdraw his name from consideration.
The Montgomery Advertiser reported Friday (http://on.mgmadv.com/1aY0Zs1 ) that Jorge Haddock had sent a letter informing the law firm assisting in the search process of his decision to withdraw but did not provide an explanation. The newspaper says efforts to reach Haddock, the dean of the School of Management at George Mason University, were not successful.
Three other finalists remain, and interviews are set for next month.
The school has been embroiled in controversy after a forensic audit ordered by the governor raised concerns of possible misspending at Alabama State. The school has sued the audit firm and disputes the firm's preliminary findings.
