Woman's body found in Mississippi River in St. James Parish


CONVENT, Louisiana — An unidentified woman's body has been pulled from the Mississippi River near the Convent Marine Terminal.

St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. says deputies received a report Thursday morning of a body floating amid barges at the terminal. Martin told The Advocate ( ) the terminal used one of its cranes to lift the body out of the water.

The victim was described as white and probably in her 40s. There was no identification or apparent signs of trauma. Martin says an autopsy was completed Thursday but a cause of death has not been released.

Investigators are reviewing reports of missing persons out of West Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge parishes and Arkansas, where authorities found the vehicle of a person who may have jumped off a bridge.
