Military officials: Fort Bragg staff sergeant dies after attack while on patrol in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, North Carolina — Military officials say a soldier based at Fort Bragg has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Monday that Staff Sgt. Girard D. Gass Jr., of Lumber Bridge died Sunday at Jalalabad Air Field Hospital from a non-combat related incident while on patrol in Nangarhar Province.

Gass was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group.
